Bellefontaine Gas Producers, LLC (Bellefontaine, OH)
| Project Type: | Power Generation |
| Start date: | February 2009 |
| Capacity: | 4.8 MW |
| Equipment: | Three Caterpillar 3520 Engine Generators |
The benefits
- Through a collaborative partnership with the landfill owner, DTE Biomass Energy was able to take a landfill that had an existing leachate evaporation project and develop an attractive power project.
- The leachate evaporation project alone did not have enough demand to use all the landfill gas produced. Without this new electric generation project, the landfill would have continued to flare gas that could otherwise have been marketed beneficially.
- The addition of new engine generators provides green power to the area for approximately 4,800 households.
- The clean energy produced by this project is equivalent to removing the emissions of approximately 34,831 cars from the road annually.*
Our role
DTE Biomass Energy’s in-house expertise in engineering and project management enabled us to design and install a wellfield and install three engines on time and under budget. We leveraged existing relationships with suppliers and contractors to effectively manage the construction.
In addition, our knowledge of the PJM Renewable Energy Credit (REC) markets allowed us to structure a long term offtake contract for capacity, power and RECs that benefits both the project and the offtaker.
