| Equipment: | Fuel Skid, Flare, One Caterpillar 3520 Engine Generator |
The benefits
- Our assessment of the Davidson County Landfill showed promise for two potential value streams – carbon capture / credits and power generation. By taking a phased development approach, our customer began receiving an immediate return on investment.
- Phase one involved installing a landfill gas collection system to create value through destruction carbon credits.
- The methane gas generated from landfills is 21 times more harmful to the environment than CO2. The greenhouse gas emissions destroyed at the Davidson landfill gas carbon capture project are equivalent to removing the emissions of approximately 10,516 passenger vehicles* from the road annually.
- Phase two began once gas volumes were proved out to support a power project. This project, which is being built in 2010, will add revenue from the sale of renewable energy to the revenue already being generated from the carbon sales.
- With the addition of the power generation component to this project, the environmental benefit of the total project will be equivalent to the carbon captured by more than 13,600 acres of pine forest annually.
