DTE Biomass Energy

Montgomery Gas Producers, LLC (Montgomery, AL)

Project Type:Direct Use
Start date:July 1998
Capacity:1.2 million cubic feet of Medium Btu gas a day
Equipment:1.6 mile pipeline that fires two brick kilns

The benefits

  • The Montgomery Gas Producers projects enabled our end-use customer to effectively and economically meet federal requirements to control emissions from their landfill.
  • Fifty-five wells capture the landfill gas, which is then routed via pipeline to the end-use customer as a fuel source to fire two brick kilns.
  • The project provides both a green energy source and a lower-priced alternative to natural gas.
  • Reduced energy costs allow the end-use customer to maintain its competitive edge.
  • Montgomery Gas Producers is one of the most environmentally-friendly facilities in the state of Alabama, achieving annual greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to planting 18,815 acres of pine forest* a year.

Our role

We understand the real meaning of partnership, and the obligations a true partnership entails.  That means we’re not only concerned for our welfare but also the welfare of our partners. In what looked like a very difficult situation for our end-use customer due to a failing economy, we used our in-house finance expertise to structure this project in way that benefits us both.

DTE Biomass Energy has years of expertise on providing medium BTU projects. Our engineering and project management expertise enables us to design and install wellfields, construct pipelines and maintain the operations of the installed equipment.
