DTE Biomass Energy

Riverview Gas Producers, LLC (Riverview, MI)

Project Type:Power Generation
Start date:January 1988
Capacity:6.6 MW
Equipment:Two Solar Centaur Turbines

The benefits

  • Annual revenues to the city of Riverview from the operation of the landfill and gas collection system are substantial. This income ensures that Riverview has one of the best Public Works Departments in the Metro-Detroit area and one of the lowest tax bases. Fire, police, waste collection, and other public programs are supported by the landfill revenue.
  • This project powers over 5,000 households by capturing over 4 million cubic feet per day of landfill gas.
  • Each day this project converts methane into a usable energy source. Over 20 billion cubic feet of gas has been beneficially recovered since 1988.
  • The greenhouse gas emissions destroyed annually at our Riverview landfill gas project are equivalent to removing approximately 47,892 passenger vehicles* from the road each year.

Our role

The success of Riverview Gas Producers is the result of a partnership that has lasted for over 20 years. Riverview Gas Producers was Michigan’s first landfill gas combustion turbine facility and has generated power since 1988. Our business partners relied on us to build this project, and we continue to maintain, operate and manage it today.

DTE Biomass Energy’s in-house expertise in engineering and project management enables us to design and install wellfields and turbines. Our experienced operations staff manages all of our projects and wellfields once they are constructed.
